Author Notes: In the early 1980s, Ray Lodge's daughter needed a new all-weather, internationally-sized arena. Not being completely satisfied with the products already on the market, the author utilized his mechanical engineering experience to experiment with different surfaces and new filtration systems. Subsequent research has culminated in the development of a system that serves all equestrian purposes and Ray Lodge has now installed a great many of theses systems both in this country and abroad. Having worked in the oil industry for 35 years, Ray wished to make a contribution to environmentally friendly recycling. He has teamed up with a company that is making a major effort to recycle used tyre material on a basis that is both economically sound and useful and friendly to the environment.
